The Bloor & Danforth-Kingston Complete Street Extensions project was conducted with the specific aim to expand bike lane infrastructure along this major thoroughfare in Toronto. The Transportation Planning team looked to streamline some of their work by employing CurbIQ software and processes to help with efficiencies.
Existing Conditions Review – Curb Converter’s Curb-Level Surveying processes were used to survey the curbside on foot while capturing all relevant information ranging from signage to parking meters and curb cuts. This data was then processed to generate a digital curb inventory and uploaded to the CurbIQ platform for assessment by the planning team.
Design and Scenario Planning – Curb Manager and Curb Analyzer allowed for the creation of different bike lane design scenarios that could be used to evaluate the potential impacts of these changes to the streetscape. Access to dashboards allowed for informed decision making about which changes would be most beneficial for the community while still providing diverse curbside needs.
Regulations Management – Curb Manager was used to provide a copy of all existing regulations that had to be removed, as well as all the proposed regulations that will take affect with the new design. This updated regulation table was used to guide bike lane construction and helped automate much of the typical manual work with the City’s regulation management process.
